Peppimenarti weaver and painter, Regina Wilson, has made a number of etchings and silkscreen prints with us over the years, but it has been a while since we got together. The opportunity arose recently, as Regina’s work was included in an AIATSIS exhibition entitled Nulla Wellamunagaa at the National Museum and she and Leanne came down to Canberra for the opening. While they were in town, the two women worked at my studio in Ainslie; Leanne on a new silkscreen print, and Regina on this 90 x 90 cm Etching plate. In the picture, you can see the cross hatching/weave being laid down in acid-resistant bitumen, following the deep etching of the first layer of concentric circles. This promises to be a major print, once it has had colour plates added and all the colour ways are determined.
