Beautiful Hazelhurst Regional Gallery in the south of Sydney has just hosted a number of Summer Schools in their printmaking , painting and ceramics workshops attached to the gallery and cafe complex. I ran a colour etching course there on Monday and Tuesday this week with 9 participants from near (Sydney), further (Picton) and far (Ireland). We managed my usual riot, comprising the use of BIG hard ground, soft ground, sugar lift, aquatint and relief biting to make the plates. On the second day we inked up pigment-painted chine colle sheets, made two plate colour etchings and tried over-rolls and a la poupee wiping. A three year course in two days! A nice group.
